Are You a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?
Not all prosthodontists and dental implant clinics are created equal; then too, it is also true that not all patients seeking implant tooth replacement are good candidates for dental implant surgery.
"I didn’t know surgery was involved," we often hear.
So let’s be clear: The placement of dental implants does require oral surgery; the insertion of a titanium screw in your jaw bone as the foundation for your prosthetic teeth, whether a crown, bridge, partial denture or full denture.
The extent of the surgery required will depend on the number of teeth to be replaced, from one tooth to all of your teeth. For more on the dental implants process, please watch our dental video blog post, Introduction to Dental Implants.
Below is a list of some conditions that can determine whether you're a good candidate for dental implants:
- A history of smoking tobacco products
- Ongoing or long-term gum disease
- Lack of mass in your jaw bone, usually due to tooth loss
- Diabetes
- Compromised immune system
- Certain prescription medications
Evaluation and consultation with your dental implant specialist
With these things in mind, your implant specialist should be willing to spend time talking with you about a variety of subjects; including whether you are a good candidate for successful implant surgery, alternative tooth replacement therapies, and the entire process involved, regardless of the therapy you choose.
Dr. Maroney will conduct a full dental evaluation and implant consultation with you. He is the only implant specialist in the Denver and Littleton area who fabricates all tooth replacements for his patients – right here in the office; ensuring a custom fit and the ultimate in comfort for all of his patients.
During your consultation with Dr. Maroney, please be sure to ask as many questions as you like. The doctor will want to know of any conditions and/or medications that may affect the healing process after surgery, as well as conditions which might make alternative tooth replacement therapies more attractive.
The doctors and staff at The Colorado Center for Implant and Prosthetic Dentistry are available to help you determine effective solutions to all of your dental problems, including total tooth replacement. If you would like more information from your Littleton area Prosthodontist, please call to make an appointment today.
