Smile Brighter, Feel Better
Having white teeth is the number one aesthetic concern of patients. So, we have developed a variety of ways to whiten teeth. The most popular method is to use a home tooth whitening system that whitens teeth dramatically. Because tooth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, it is important to match fillings, crowns, bridges, or partial dentures. (Replacement of any restorations will be done after bleaching so they will match the newly bleached teeth.)
Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up may be needed every several years, and more often if you smoke, drink coffee, tea, or wine.
Reasons for whitening your teeth:
- Fluorosis (excessive fluoridation during tooth development)
- Normal wear of outer tooth layer
- Stained teeth due to medications (tetracycline, etc.)
- Yellow, brown stained teeth
How does tooth whitening work?**
This type of tooth whitening usually requires two visits. At your first appointment, we make impressions of your teeth to fabricate custom, clear plastic, trays.
At your second appointment, we try in the trays for proper fit, and we make adjustments if necessary. You wear trays with a special whitening solution twice a day or 30 minutes. Another option is to wear trays overnight for a couple of weeks to stain to your desired level of whitening. Similarly, tooth sensitivity is normal during the time you are whitening. However, it will subside shortly after you have stopped bleaching.
We give you instructions on how your use your trays. Furthermore, be encouraged to visit your dentist regularly to help maintain a beautiful, healthy, white smile.
